PITTSBURG, Kan. — Southwestern Oklahoma State beat Truman State University 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, and 25-22 in volleyball Thursday at John Lance Arena in the Pittsburg State Tournament.
Truman State led the first set 16-10 before Southwestern Oklahoma State closed. Truman State took the second set after trailing 3-0, hitting .520.
Southwestern Oklahoma State pulled away in the third. In the fourth, Southwestern Oklahoma State jumped ahead 5-1. Truman State pulled within one at 15-16 on kills from Truman State's Jessie Julius and Truman State's Laci Neece and a block from Truman State's Hannah Hosty and Truman State's Julius. Southwestern Oklahoma State answered and closed on a kill from Southwestern Oklahoma State's Jenna Houk after Truman State reached 22-24.
Southwestern Oklahoma State's Layla Collins had 18 kills and four aces. Southwestern Oklahoma State's Sydnee Winfrey had 13 kills and Southwestern Oklahoma State's Katja Blanchat had 12. Southwestern Oklahoma State's Mackenzie Sims had 49 assists. Southwestern Oklahoma State's Houk had 16 digs and Southwestern Oklahoma State's Jada Permenter had 15.
Truman State's Julius led with 14 kills and hit .344 with two aces. Truman State's Neece had 11 kills and four blocks, and Truman State's Hosty had nine kills and three blocks. Truman State's Autumn Erickson hit .389 with seven kills and no errors. Truman State's Tori Creason had 45 assists. Truman State's Addy Janssen had 18 digs, Truman State's Julius had 11, and Truman State's Neece had 10.
Southwestern Oklahoma State hit .282 to Truman State's .266 and outscored Truman State 64-50 in kills and 10-6 in aces. Both teams had six blocks.
