Macon man held on first-degree assault charge; bond hearing set for May 7

A 31-year-old Macon man remains in custody pending a bond hearing on felony assault and harassment charges, according to court records.
Jared Bentley is charged in Macon County Circuit Court with first-degree assault, a class B felony; first-degree harassment, a class E felony; and misdemeanor resisting arrest, court records in case number 26MA-CR00128 show. The case was filed Sunday, May 3, with an incident date listed as Saturday.
Bentley appeared in custody and without an attorney for a bond appearance hearing Monday afternoon before Associate Circuit Judge Kristen Dawn Burks. Prosecuting Attorney Meisner appeared for the state.

Bentley was advised of his right to remain silent and his right to counsel, was arraigned, and entered a plea of not guilty, according to the docket entry. The court provided him with a copy of the probable cause statement in lieu of an amended complaint.

Judge Burks advised Bentley that no bond hearing could be held until the alleged victim received seven days’ notice. The case was set for counsel status and bond hearing setting on May 7 at 10 a.m.

The complaint and probable cause statement were not publicly available on Case.net as of 8 a.m. Tuesday. The Chronicle is reporting on the case at this stage because Bentley remains in custody and the listed charges have not changed since the case was filed.
