Labor Day weekend brings blood drive, festivals, and fireworks

Macon County marks Labor Day weekend with a blood drive, festivals, fireworks, and no school Monday.

The Macon Community Blood Drive is Thursday, Sept. 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Long Branch YMCA. For more information, call Kaylie Teter at 660-395-9649, according to the Macon Area Chamber of Commerce calendar.

Chariton Valley's customer appreciation lunch is Friday, Sept. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at headquarters, 1213 E. Briggs Dr. in Macon, according to the Chamber calendar.

Community 32's 2nd Annual Buckets over Bullets 3-on-3 starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at Rubey Street Park. A team of four is $50. A team of five is $75. Fees are due the day of the tournament, according to the event listing. Community 32 can be reached at 660-415-9397 or madj.community32@gmail.com.

The Chamber's Fork & Cork Artisan Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. downtown Macon, according to the Chamber calendar and annual-events page.

The 2026 La Plata Soybean Festival is listed on the Chamber calendar from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. The calendar names Salt River Band, talent-show entertainment, a Sept. 6 youth movie night hosted by Scout Troop 660 at Gary Cunningham Event Center, and ice cream and pie served for the GCEC community fund. Visit Macon County lists the festival at 206 E. Moore St. and dates it Sept. 5 through Sept. 7.

Lolli Livestock Market holds a catalog horse sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the Chamber calendar.

On Sunday, Sept. 6, Long Branch RV Park and Still Towing host the 5th Annual Customer Appreciation Fireworks at 29105 St. Hwy. AX in Macon. The Chamber listing says the show starts at dusk and also lists 9 to 10 p.m.

Also Sunday, La Plata Christian Church holds community worship at 10 a.m. in City Park. Communion is at 9:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. There is no Sunday School that day, according to the church events page.

Labor Day is Monday, Sept. 7. Schools are closed that day at Macon R-1, La Plata R-II, Bevier C-4, Callao C-8, and Macon County R-IV in New Cambria. Macon R-1 also lists an early dismissal Friday, Sept. 4, at 11:30 a.m.
