Bevier has been named a Smart Rural Community for its use of fiber broadband, Chariton Valley said.
The cooperative announced the designation Friday. It was celebrated at Chariton Valley Telephone Cooperative's member appreciation event at Bevier City Park.
City Clerk Trinette Peukert prepared and submitted the application, Chariton Valley said. The application described how broadband supports city operations, businesses, Bevier C-4 online learning, telehealth, agriculture, remote work, and home-based businesses.
Donna Bell, Chariton Valley public relations and economic development manager, said the designation recognizes Bevier's commitment to technology. She said reliable broadband continues to open doors for residents, businesses, students, and local leaders.
Melissa Cole, president of the Chariton Valley Telephone Corporation board, said fiber broadband gives rural communities the speed, reliability, and capacity they need. She said rural communities deserve the same access to technology as anywhere else.
