An Excello man is being held on a $20,000 cash-only bond on felony charges of second-degree burglary, possession of a controlled substance, and driving while revoked.
Shawn F. Cross, of Excello, was charged Sept. 27 in Macon County Circuit Court in case 26MA-CR00266, in a three-count complaint alleging burglary in the second degree, a class D felony; possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; and driving while revoked or suspended, a class E felony.
The Macon County Sheriff's Office opened the investigation Sept. 26, according to the probable cause statement filed by Deputy James Ligon. Ligon wrote that he responded to a report of possible trespassing in Excello, that a man driving a red Chevrolet Silverado tried to enter a residence, damaged exterior cameras, and left with property from the residence.
Ligon wrote he later found Cross walking nearby, recognized him from security footage, and recovered a glass pipe containing a white substance that a field test showed positive for methamphetamine.
Ligon wrote that the Silverado appeared stuck and that the investigation indicated the truck had been stolen from Randolph County, and that Cross has a revoked driver's license.
A bond appearance hearing is set for 10 a.m. Sept. 29 before Judge Burks in Macon.
Charges are accusations. Cross is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
