Macon County EMS will hold a 40-hour first responder course at the La Plata Fire Department starting Oct. 4.
Classes meet Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 6 to 10 p.m. through October at 1001 Amoco Road in La Plata, according to the district's registration form. The course includes classroom learning and hands-on skills. Students must attend all classes. Enrollment is limited to 10.
The form lists session dates of Oct. 4, 7, 11, 14, 18, 21, 25, and 28. The course ID is FR26-01.
Total cost is $100: $80 for the course, due the first day of class, and $20 for the CPR card, according to the form. The signup deadline is Oct. 1.

Chariton Media Group sought comment Wednesday from Macon County EMS Chief Chris Bogguss and the La Plata Community Fire Protection District about the course. Chariton Media Group did not receive a response in time for publication.
Macon County EMS offers public health education, including CPR, first aid, first responder, and EMT-Basic classes, according to its website. The agency's office is at 1305 N. Rutherford St. in Macon; the administration line is 660-395-8640.
Chariton Media Group previously reported that Macon Electric Cooperative will host a live-line safety demonstration for area first responders at 6 p.m. Sept. 28, with supper at 5:30 p.m.
