A Heat Advisory covering Macon County remains in effect through 8 p.m. Friday.
The National Weather Service in Kansas City and Pleasant Hill continued the advisory at 6:44 a.m. Wednesday. Heat index values of up to 105 are expected. The cities named on the product include Macon and La Plata.
The advisory had been posted to run through 7 p.m. Wednesday. It now continues through Friday evening.
The Weather Service said well above normal temperatures are expected to continue through the end of the week, likely through early next week. It said the Heat Advisory will likely need to be extended into or through the weekend.
Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses, the Weather Service said. It said overnight relief will be limited.
The Weather Service forecast for Macon County calls for sunny, hot weather, with highs in the mid 90s Wednesday through Friday, and heat index values up to 104. Overnight lows are in the mid 70s.
The Weather Service said to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Limit strenuous activity to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
