The city of Macon is seeking bids to buy de-icing salt by 1 p.m. Friday and to sell a used 1998 fire engine by 3 p.m. Sept. 28.
The salt bid is for the 2026-27 season, according to specifications posted on the city's bids and RFPs page. The fire engine is offered as is, with no warranties of fitness, according to the sale specifications.
The city wants 75 to 175 tons of Type D-632-94 de-icing salt. The first 75 tons are to be delivered by Oct. 31, according to the specifications.
Quotes are to be a price per ton, in truckload lots, with delivery time. Delivery is to the street department in end-dump trucks or trailers, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and within three days of an order.
Salt bids must be mailed or handed in at Macon City Hall, 106 W. Bourke St., securely sealed and marked "Salt Bid. Attention: Anastasia Rucker." Bids not received on time will not be included in the tabulation, according to the specifications.
The fire engine is an Alexis Fire Equipment apparatus on an HME SFO chassis, with a 1,750-gpm Waterous pump and a 770-gallon tank, according to the specifications. The reserve price is $30,000. The city may reject bids below that.
Fire engine bids must contain a lump-sum price, the bidder's name, contact information, and a signature. They must be mailed or handed in, securely sealed, and marked "FD Property Bid. Attention: Anastasia Rucker."
